If the internet is good at one thing, it’s being funny, and in light of the Democrat midterm sweep, I’ve seen some very funny posts, probably from people who will be genuinely thrilled to see pronouns returned to bios and me returned to the virtual gulag. Some hits:
The accidentally funniest posts are of course from the over-serious libs, who have convinced themselves that everyone cares deeply about their pet issue and long list of meaningless words and statements.

“Imagine if Elon Musk had spent his money rebuilding Gaza” was a particular amusement.
Probably my favorite explanation, though, was this one:
Nailed it. Just like this was demonstrated in all recent elections, the American people vote first against “racism.” They also love being called “racists” when they don’t vote Democrat. It is a winning strategy to talk endlessly about “racism” in America either way. God knows these results had nothing to do with the cost of gas or groceries and everything to do with an imaginary “genocide” in a tiny country that doesn’t actually matter, governed by jihadis.
While many are feeling devastated over the midterm results, I am feeling oddly optimistic. Democrats and their supporters have clearly learned nothing from their 2016 and 2024 losses, and are going to power through as though that never happened.
Alas, no one is actually getting cheaper gas and groceries because of these midterm results, and also no one is getting free healthcare. You’re getting revenge and associated wasted taxpayer money.
For all their proclaimed fear of authoritarianism and fascism under Trump, for all their claims that Trump’s presidency signaled an end to democracy, for all their pretending that Trump was going to criminalize his enemies, none of that happened. And instead, now that democracy has worked in their favour, they are openly threatening all this and more.
The good news is that this is likely to all swing back in the other direction in a matter of years, as this seems to be the (very annoying) pattern in American politics.
The other good news is that the left is too cocky and stupid not to embarrass itself by revealing its genuinely stupid intentions. My hope is that this incredible stupidity doesn’t actually destroy the entire country.
Unlike much of the internet, I’m not going to claim to have any big and informed take on what happened here, because I have quite a bit more reading and thinking and listening to other more informed people to do before coming to any confident(ish) conclusion. I will say that if it is true that the Iran war was of primary concern and that this was a reason the Republicans lost bigly in the midterms, Americans are too short-sighted for their own good. I don’t think the war was a mistake. Not now, anyway. The conclusion of the war remains to be seen, and therefore I don’t think any of us are equipped to say that this was some kind of epic failure in any way except optics. My feeling is that leaving Iran to its own devices is far stupider than being proactive.

Proud to be a paid subscriber. The Democrats are an embarrassment.
