Progressive narratives around race, immigration, colonization, and empire have gone off the rails. Ahistorical notions about “white, Western colonizers” have warped politics to the point of nonsense. As a result, conversations around “cultural appropriation” have made everything from dreadlocks to hoop earrings to Mexican food a subject of debate. Stories like that of Jason Arday* reveal how DEI policies have made a laughing stock of our institutions. Mass immigration, supported by progressives as a means to assuage their “white guilt” and to “be kind” is destroying Britain, yet to criticize these policies is framed as “racist.”
I spoke with Marie Kawthar Daouda about all this and more. Marie is a Moroccan and French academic, a lecturer at Oriel College (University of Oxford), and the author of Not Your Victim: How our Obsession with Race Entraps and Divides Us, published by Polity Press.
*This conversation was recorded before Arday’s death.
