Well, because I live in Mexico haha. And love it here. If I didn't live here, I'd probably live in the states, who knows. If Canada became a state I might spend more time there? Depends on how much things changed... I don't enjoy Canada, though... The culture is lacking, and of course the politics are disturbing... It's just not a fun place to be, and that combined with its oppressive nature, the fact so many people there seem to be living in a strange bubble, the weather, the fact it is totally unaffordable, that people seem to desire to control one another and the world around them, the lack of interest in fun, community, and relationships, etc etc etc. Many reasons not to be there. Mainly, though, I'm happy here. I like my friends, the vibes, the culture, the warmth, the freedom, the lack of Karens and control freaks, the fact that people aren't obsessed with politics and dividing people into categories on political lines, the fact people here enjoy fun, celebration, value community, etc etc. I don't particularly desire to live in a city again. I like living in a small town. I like leaving the house and greeting people on the street. I like that we all know and care about one another and that people help each other out. I like the dogs and the roosters and the horses and donkeys and iguanas. I like the chaos. I don't want to sit comfortably in my apartment, ordering Uber eats till I die. I want life and adventure and experience and joy. There is little about Canada that feels desirable to me.
Fair enough, and I can see the appeal of a warmer, more welcoming climate in Mexico…you’re not the first person I’ve known to rave about it…but for all the things you list you don’t like about Canada, what makes you think it will be any better in the US? In fact, a lot of those things are now way, way worse. Plus you’d get to fight with insurance companies assumign you could even afford any. You could wonder what Elon’s doing with your SS information now, or whether someone in the government is going to take something out on you because they didn’t like something you said or wrote. You could get caught in a mass shooting (although you certainly have that bennie in certain parts of Mexico! ;) ) You could maybe get a cheaper place to live than anywhere in Canada in parts of the south. But good luck getting help from ex-FEMA if your community is hit by a natural disaster. I mean seriously, I get what you’re saying about Canada but how it is not 10X worse now in the US? You know you’re really odd one out on the state thing…only 4% of Canadians think it’s a good idea which just goes to show you how badly Orangeboy has pissed off AB & QC!
Do you think the only reason I live in Mexico is because it's warmer? It's very strange to me that despite the extensive speaking and writing I have done with regard to all the myriad of problems with Canada and why I left you would still pretend not to understand... Canada is moving into communism. I choose freedom.
Communism? Do you have a problem with that? Why? Because it’s authoritarian? What’s your current opinion of Trump, then? Because I see a lot of the same. Right-wing and left-wing authoritarianism look pretty alike to me.
If the US is so great, why aren't you living there? If Canada became a state, would you move back here?

Well, communism has had horrific impacts everywhere its been implemented, and yes, generally requires authoritarianism.
