Justin Trudeau didn't resign—he impeded the democratic process
The Prime Minister hasn't resigned, he has hijacked democracy and seized power
I wrote an angry diatribe yesterday in response to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement he intended to resign, explaining that “This was the Prime Minister’s only way to maintain control, and avoid ceding defeat.” He was doing this, I argued, in order to avoid being voted out by the Canadian people, clinging to power regardless of what was best for the country and regardless of what citizens wanted.
This is true. But I want to clarify further what is really going on here, because I don’t think that Americans following this story, or most Canadians for that matter, really understand what he’s done, here.
I would love to be celebrating right now, but we absolutely should not be, because what has happened here is nothing short of an authoritarian move, within which Trudeau can still do much damage.
