I am watching the first season of Spartacus now, Blood and Sand, released In 2010, regrettably the only season that Andy Whitfield lived to make, released in 2010. I won’t comment on the actors in the cast, but the women are almost ridiculously beautiful, virtually without exception. This is true of the actresses playing aristocrats, like Vitta Bianca and Lucy Lawless, but also of those playing commoners, like Erin Cummings and Lesley Ann-Brandt. The latter played the slave girl Naevia is the series and was born in South Africa, part of the coloured minority there. Her character was the only one who survived the first season, but unfortunately Lesley—Ann didn’t get to reprise her role, which she blamed on the ineptitude of her agent. If the women have gotten unrealistically beautiful in the 21st century films, there are also a lot more roles for non-white women, and that, on balance, is a good thing.
“Empirically, [Meg Ryan] [was] attractive.”

Great blog as usual, Meghan.

I remember hearing that Jennifer Grey got a nose job after Dirty Dancing and it ended her career.
