But that’s the whole point Meghan: submission to the absolute, to the Monster, to the King. It’s the flip side of the imposition of the absolute, the Monster etc by those associated with the super-national enterprise - including AI - to control the world and everything within it. And, like lambs to the slaughter people are, well, just offering themselves up to it. (MAGA - and other cults - is a great example of this ‘thinking’ in action). Well done you then for your réalisation that this King does indeed wear no clothes beyond those of our own complicity.

"You all did this to me with dating apps too. Lord the endless pressure I got from friends back in Vancouver who insisted It’s fun, Meghan. (It’s not.) Why would I want to spend one more second of my day on any app, never mind on an app talking to strangers I don’t want to date?" - This made me laugh so hard. I despise the apps. I tried one for exactly one week, went on one date and swore never again.

I agree with this too: "An app is none of those things and beyond my disinterest in swiping through a series of internet faces, disattached from any vibe or pheromone, there is no part of me so desperate as to be driven to attempt to sell myself to strangers I have no interest in. "

I refuse to use AI for anything and am just thinking how much dumber we are about to get.

I did not spell this out in the piece but I also want to know why women don't feel embarrassed to appear so desperate as to sell themselves to strange men on an app. Like you post photos of yourself in the desperate hope some porn addicted loser who knows nothing about you beyond this filtered photo will message you and pay a moment's attention to you? Where is your sense of shame? Also, I've never in my life had trouble meeting men. It's not that hard... They are everywhere. I just don't understand any of this.

YES. THIS. Exactly this. Why are women so ok with appearing like cattle in a catalogue you scroll through? Where is the thought, the effort, the conversation. Any of it really. The app I used is supposedly by women for women to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff but it is just as gross as the rest of them. I tried one date and swore never again. My sister had been pressuring me for a straight year to try that app - I wish I had never given in.

You're always pithy and smart, but when you're editorializing you're at your best. No irony intended.

It amazes me how uncritically people have embraced Life On Line, and AI, as if these are magnificent innovations of the 21st century.

Humans are flawed. Tech is perfect. Who doesn't want perfection?

Negative implications, anyone? Not one of you is a bit concerned about walking around with a "smart watch" attached to your body so it can measure your heart rate and COUNT YOUR STEPS for you?

You're grateful that you don't have to think, and instead can have every step you take monitored by the government and the medical industrial complex? What's that? It makes your life better, like the covid vaccine?

Now I'm ranting, so I'll stop here. You've said it all.

I just cannot relate for even a moment to not wanting to be able to think. Don't these people care about their brains working? Don't they enjoy thinking? It's just weird.

I was on the internet in the early 90s as a kid (lol safety what now?). My crabby old friend, who fished his first computer out of a dumpster and ran it on hamsters, and I both think it's all trash now. True and reliable information is difficult to find and confirm, politics is fucked, the algos all push rage bait and bots, and physical community has semi collapsed to just going out to eat and drink. Or in my area girlbossbabe "networking" or some other rancid bullshit. Even if you go out to eat or drink and try to post your pics so your friends can like them like back in the early fb/insta/myspace days they're filtered out after all the ads, bots, and nonsense fyp viral garbage.

Based on working with people 10-15 years younger than me it's also not helping them write emails, or anything else for that matter. Autocorrect is trained to use apostrophe on flea market signs that read "Record's for sale" from what I can tell. It's an active fight getting my phone to stop "fixing" words that were already correct and is more functional in Spanish than English. And the shit I want AI/robots to do is not getting handled. DO MY DISHES AND MY LAUNDRY.

My job will be on the AI chopping block and based on the software I use for most of my work, the company that is in charge of that software, and the industry in which it's in so it's going to be a shit show lol. I know people who have already lost jobs to AI but they get jobs in the same sector because other employers have already tried to dump people for AI but found out computers can't do anything without handholding.

We were promised Star Trek but instead we're getting BSG and Idiocracy. It sucks. None of the shit we wanted from a tech revolution is coming true. I welcome being a meat battery at this point if I don't have to be conscious for Meta's next brilliant idea.

Yeah autocorrect is fucking retarded like it correct my words to words that don't exist at all or simply choose the wrong word. I would never trust AI to write an email for me.

lol it was PERFECT syncronicity. And now something from JBP interviewing Jonathan Haidt popped up on youtube about social media ruining kids.

I often wonder if it was really just smartphones and algorithms that did it. We still went out and did regular shit like regular humans with MySpace or fb v.1 existing. When it wasn't in our pockets and didn't have an advertising/monetization/influencer model as the backbone it seemed to enhance life. Now it's a fight to keep braincells engaged in reality and out of misery. Social apps are the meth laced fast food of relationships.

Yeah the fact people can make money from pumping out inane, empty bs into the algorithm and that the people who do this know how to engage minds is what's troubling, in large part.

Thank God someone else gets this. Also even if I wanted AI to run my life why the hell would I trust it when my damn phone can't even decipher what I'm saying.
