At one time, Andrew Lawton was struggling with mental health issues, to the point he had become suicidal. Had MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) been an option for him then, he may well have taken it. But things got better, and now he is living a happy and fulfilling life, very glad he didn’t take that irreversible step. But for many Canadians, they might not have the chance to recover. Andrew Lawton is the Member of Parliament for Elgin—St. Thomas—London South. Before being elected in 2025, Andrew was a broadcaster, journalist, author, and the managing editor of True North. He is the founder of the “I Got Better” campaign and a proponent of Bill C-218, “The Right to Recover Act.”
I spoke with Andrew about MAID in Canada, as well as a new bill proposed by the Liberal government to crack down on so-called “hate speech.”
