Anthony Fauci wasn't a hero, he was a villain, and he deserves to be held accountable
Last week, a very embarrassing thing happened to exactly the kind of man who deserves to be embarrassed. The diaries of Dr. Anthony Fauci, orchestrator of the Covid charade, were released to the public by Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul, R-Ky. Fauci’s diaries revealed an adolescent preoccupation with celebrity—both his own, and that of others—as well as a willingness to lie in order to protect his interests.
As reported by Fox News:
The diary entries document Fauci’s fondness of his newfound fame, cozy relationships with a variety of legacy media personalities, his growing frustration with the Trump White House and the suggestion that it was "not hyperbole" to say he was "the most famous and talked about person in the country."
Fauci kept the diaries on a government computer, then emailed them to himself, as he wanted to use them to write his next book. This allowed Paul to access and release them, revealing that Fauci lied about almost everything: about having shut down schools, about Covid-related deaths, about transmissibility, about the suspected origin of the virus, about treatments such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, and about the efficacy of the “vaccine.”
Any normal person would be deeply embarrassed, but I worry that narcissists of his caliber don’t feel embarrassment. I suspect they maintain adoration for themselves—convinced their behaviour are right and justified, and that they deserve all the accolades, money, power, doughnuts with their faces on them—regardless of the impact on others or the nefarious ways in which they won all that.
What Fauci got away with and was pardoned for by Biden, just before leaving office on January 24, 2025, is horrific. His involvement in the pandemic makes him responsible for the destruction of countless people’s lives, families, and businesses. But the commitment to which progressives must hate Trump, conservatives, and really, anyone who is not just like them, means it is not only all excused, but in fact it doesn’t exist at all. To them, Fauci remains a hero, and all those who turned out to be right—people like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for example, who laid it all out for us in a very big, meticulously cited, book—are still “conspiracy theorists,” “anti-vaxxers” (I mean, at this point, knowing what we know, maybe you should be?), “MAGA,” and a variety of other slurs and labels that equate, essentially, to “non-human” or at very least not-to-be-listened-to.
I’m not sure if there is anything that can be written, spoken, or evidenced that will convince those who turned out to be deadly wrong that they were. The silos they built and insulated themselves in won’t allow it. Their political identities prevent them from hearing anything from those they’ve placed on “the other side” of the political spectrum, pitted as enemies. Even reading Kennedy’s book would be sacrilege, as it would allow information to enter their brains from a source they must label “kook” (and who is associated with Trump) in order to maintain their view of themselves as intelligent, worldly, well-informed, high class people who trust the science. Not like the dum dums who actually looked the “science,” or simply used their rational brains to determine that we were doing irrational things in response to Covid, and pointed out that the media, politicized messaging, and “The Science™” was wrong.
Now that Fauci’s own words—which sound very much like the words of a teenage girl writing about being invited to a sleepover with the popular girls, then being asked out by their crush—are freely available to the public, the truth is undeniable.
The health of Americans was never his interest—his friendships with elites and celebrities was. His fame and power was. His wealth was.
Fauci listed every “A-lister” he rubbed elbows with at every party, every adoring fan encounter, every time he was asked for a selfie, every time he did a media interview or was mentioned in the media, every time someone important told him he was “the smartest person around” or “how great he is” (these compliments constituted an “Amazing Day!” regardless of the stress and suffering of those he was meant to be concerned with and “protecting”), and every time any politician or celebrity heaped praise on him (in great detail and at length), telling him was doing “God’s work.”
In a way, he was.
Fauci really did play God with Covid, as he funded the gain-of-function research that created the virus, which was then most-likely leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, infecting the population. He lied to the public about this, as well as to Congress, saying in 2021 that the National Institute of Health (NIH) “has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
Fauci suppressed treatments he knew worked, such as ivermectin (a very cheap and safe drug) and hydroxychloroquine, promoting the dangerous drug Remdesivir instead. He promoted lockdowns, which seemed clearly intended to force the population to get an experimental and dangerous shot that would not “stop the spread,” but which he and his friends would profit from.
Fauci knew in February 2020 Covid’s fatality rate was low, writing, “This is acting like a bad influenza in its transmissibility,” and that the fatality rate is “more like 0.2-0.3 percent rather than 2.0 percent,” yet continued telling the public the fatality rate was much higher. At a hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee in March 2020, he said Covid was ten times more lethal than flu. He also knew very early on (in 2020) that those with “underlying conditions, particularly the elderly” were most at risk, whereas the young and healthy were not at risk of dying from Covid, but failed to explain this to the public.
Despite what Fauci himself knew, anyone who compared the virus to a bad flu was attacked viciously. Anyone who suggested or used ivermectin was mocked as an idiot taking “horse goo.” Those who corrected the misreported fatality rate or pointed to age-based mortality risks and natural immunity were censored, including, famously, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, an author of The Great Barrington Declaration, which stated correctly that “lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health.” Indeed, all those who argued that the lockdowns were doing more harm than good were treated as dangerous. People who refused the experimental, unnecessary, risky jab were fired from their jobs and prevented from participating in public life. People who talked about the lab leak theory were called “conspiracy theorists.”
Fauci changed “The Science™” to suit political narratives and profit motives, and seemed proud of this. Most of what has been revealed in his diaries isn’t even really new information, but it was so suppressed by the media, the Biden administration, social media companies, and the wide range of doctors, scientists, and the pharmaceutical industry, that those who couldn’t be bothered looking wouldn’t have noticed. Now, it’s undeniable.
Back in 2023, The Racket News and Public reported on the “Proximal Origins” communications examined by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, “revealing a story far worse than previously believed.” Matt Taibbi, Leighton Woodhouse, Michael Shellenberger, and Alex Gutentag covered the private communications between the authors of a paper titled, The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2, revealing a scientific cover up, with one author of the “Proximal Origin” paper, Scripps Research Professor Dr. Kristian Andersen, writing, “The lab escape version of this is so friggin’ likely because they were already doing this work…”
The Racket story explains, “It’s with the publication of The Proximal Origin of SARS CoV-2 on March 17th that the unprecedented campaign of media deception really begins.”
The “lab leak theory” became infamous in mainstream circles among other things because Donald Trump seemed to blame China for the mess, using terms like “Kung Flu,” and secondarily because it appeared to implicate a neoliberal hero, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who stepped into the shoes of Robert Mueller as the favored leading man of the mainstream press…
… The provenance of Covid-19 was a legitimate angle for journalistic investigation for many reasons. For one thing, the appearance of that particular virus in that particular city was an extraordinary coincidence (as one source put it, “It’s not like it was the neighboring city”), lab leaks were not uncommon, and the genetic sequence of this virus had characteristics of real research that was conducted by both Chinese and American scientists, research of a type Anthony Fauci had fought for dating back to the Obama years.
Fauci repeatedly called the lab leak story a “conspiracy theory” over the years, beginning in 2020, knowing that it was the most likely origin—really the only theory that made any sense. In a January 2020 entry, Fauci writes:
It now appears using epi data and genomic data that the first infection was in early December and was not connected to the market. The infections spread among people weeks before the Chinese reported that they were dealing with a new infection and that gave the virus time to establish itself in multigenerational (sustained) spread. Remember, early on the Chinese were saying that there is no human-to-human transmission and all the original 27 cases were from the market. Now we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier. Having said that, somewhere the virus jumped from animals to humans.
The media, dutiful stenographers that they are, proceeded to run stories with headlines like, “No, the new coronavirus wasn’t created in a lab, scientists say.” (This is not, in fact, what scientists were saying. They were running with an “improbable” line in public, while in private saying “so friggin’ likely.”) Social media companies also responded as directed:
Even credentialed scientists began to be disciplined by sites like Facebook, which took direction from government health authorities and prohibited statements about the virus being “man-made or manufactured.” There was also an impact on the press, especially after the popular site Zero Hedge was removed from Twitter after an article suggesting a scientist in Wuhan was behind the outbreak.
On January 31, 2020, after a meeting at The White House, Fauci writes:
“There have been conspiracy theories that the virus was given GOF by inserted mutations and deliberately or accidentally released in Wuhan. One theory was written by Indian investigators that HIV sequences were inserted by a Chinese person in Canada and released in Wuhan. Everyone thinks that is crazy, but the Farrar phone call was different. The people on the phone felt that the mutations around the furine cleavage site of the spike protein could not have occurred naturally since it would require an evolutionary ‘jump that they found nowhere in bat isolates. They bring up the possibility that this could have been deliberately inserted and either accidentally released or deliberately released by a crazy person in the lab, the former being the most likely.’”
The story was intentionally politicized by the press in order to trigger people’s TDS and fear of being labelled “racist” or “right wing.” As reported by The Racket News:
With a few notable exceptions, nearly everyone in the mainstream press community steered clear of any investigation of the possibility of lab origin for Covid-19, for several reasons. One key one was that such theories were coded early on as “right-wing” or even racist. “I was publicly libeled as a racist sinophobe,” says Deigin of DRASTIC, “and of course ridiculed as a crackpot conspiracist by countless virologists and their fanboys.” Prominent figures on channels like MSNBC hammered the idea that “lab leak” was right-wing lunacy, with Nicolle Wallace calling it “one of Trumpworld’s most favorite conspiracy theories,” while Fareed Zakaria in the Washington Post announced, “The far right has now found its own virus conspiracy theory.”
In May 2021, New York Times’ science and global health reporter, Apoorva Mandavilli, tweeted: “Someday we will stop talking about the lab leak theory and maybe even admit its racist roots. But alas, that day is not yet here.”
Progressives repeated all these messages, playing foot soldier for the lying “experts.” They punished and vilified their friends and family for refusing to toe the line, they ratted out their neighbours for having grandma over for Christmas dinner. They cheered the social media bans and censorship. They supported Fauci in his narcissistic, ego-driven quest for power and profit above the truth and well-being of the population.
His diaries are both laughable and enraging.
“All my friends kept saying I was a national hero” sounds like something a child would say (à la “all my friends say I’m the best at dodgeball!” or “I got the most presents at my birthday party!”), but this man, so blinded by his own narcissism, didn’t care. “I am becoming an international celebrity,” he wrote in March 2020. There are countless entries like this.
The man should be in jail, but oh jeez oops, Joe Biden gave him the gift of a preemptive pardon just before leaving office on January 24, 2025. Do you think that could be because they all knew the whole thing was a scam that destroyed millions of people’s lives so that a few could get rich? And because they knew the truth would come out one day and we would attempt to hold Fauci accountable?
And indeed, people are trying. Fauci appeared under subpoena before Rand Paul’s Senate hearing panel on Wednesday, where he invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times.
"There will be repercussions to your refusal to testify today," Paul responded. "The committee will have to consider after this hearing what appropriate action should be taken against you for the failure to testify after being directed to do so. It's against the law to obstruct an investigation of Congress."
As I understand it, Fauci doesn’t have the right to plead the Fifth under these circumstances, on account of having been granted a full and unconditional pardon, providing him with immunity, though he could still face charges if he is found to have lied under oath. Was he planning to lie or worried he might “have to” in order to protect himself?
I am still seeing hand-wringing by progressives online, worrying about people not “trusting the science” and about “anti-vaxxers” and “conspiracy theorists.” At this point, if you are still refusing to see the truth and admit you were wrong—that those you took orders from were lying, and that you behaved in ridiculous, irrational, cruel, and unethical ways in order to do the dirty work of “the experts” and because of political partisanship—you are intentionally ignoring reality. You are choosing to keep your head in the sand because, like Fauci, your ego is important than the truth and doing what’s right.
The truth is all out there now for all to read, so the only excuse anyone has to continue to pretend that egregious lies, censorship, punishment, and cruelty didn't happen—to pretend that the mandates and lockdowns weren't unconstitutional and a violation of our rights that did far more harm than good—is that people are choosing not to read or listen.
In 2020 and 2021, there was an excuse. The public was being given misinformation and being lied to. The truth was being suppressed, and those sharing dissenting perspectives and information were vilified, silenced, and censored. You had to make an effort to find true information. (This doesn’t, to my mind, excuse the cruelty and the completely irrational behaviour, and it doesn’t excuse the violation of our constitutional rights, but it is acceptable to say “I was given bad information and I believed it. Oops.)
But now, you can just read Fauci’s diaries yourself. You could read RFK Jr.’s book, even. You could listen to what those who were unfairly vilified and censored are saying. If you are choosing not to do that, you are choosing ignorance in order to avoid reality, because you don’t want to admit you were wrong and that your “experts” deceived you. You don’t want to face the fact that you participated in a charade that ruined the lives of countless people. You are admitting to the world that you don’t want to think, you don't want to be informed, and you don't want the truth. That what you want is to stay in your bubble and continue to ingest and regurgitate propaganda that comforts you and suits your political biases and ensures you can go on with your life without questioning your behaviour, self-righteous attitude, media, algorithm, political parties, political identity, and political allegiances.
But we know. We know who we are, and what choices we made, and we know who you are, and what choices you made. How you move forward at this point is still up to you, but how you do is character-defining.
Who do you want to be? A person of integrity who seeks truth and values a democratic society and the rights of those who live in a democratic society? Or a person who doesn’t want the truth if it challenges their tribalism or political identity?
Fauci’s legacy should be that he convinced the public not to “trust the science.” And of course that is a reprehensible liar, so embarrassingly enamored with himself that he was happy to destroy countless lives, provided he could continue to get praise from the likes of Julia Roberts.
He should be held accountable for what he did. I don’t know that he will, because people like him rarely are. At very least, his diaries have made a fool of him, and that cannot be erased from history.
