Here is one difference between Americans and Canadians.
Compare the cases of Jessica Buchanan (American) and Amanda Lindhout (Canadian). Both were kidnapped by Somalia pirates. After 15 months, Lindhout's captors got a large ransom. After 3 months, Buchanan's captors got bullets through their heads fired by U.S. Navy SEALs.
Canadian smugness about Americans has been used by our Laurentian elite for over 100 years.
Working with lots of Americans and Canadians in Korea strongly shaped my opinions of citizens of each country. All the Americans (minus one) were great to work with. Most of the Canadians were good too, but my worst co-workers were Canadian every time. Not Americans, Aussies, Brits, Irish, Kiwis or South Africans. Blame Canada..ha..ha

You completely nailed it. I find it amusing as a foreigner that Canadians say they are b incredibly modest. Do they even know what modest means? I’m pretty sure progressive Canadians think they invented human kindness. My theory is that it was invented in the Philippines but what would I know?
