That was brilliant, thank you both so much!

I’m sure this is brilliant, but I wish it were available as a transcript. I don’t listen to videos.

That's too bad - it's very much worth your time. Maybe you can listen while you fold clothes or do dishes. I listen while I play a game on the computer. There's no video, in case that wasn't clear. It's just audio. You could even listen on a car ride?

I’ve tried but for some reason recorded audio like that drives me crazy. I’ll try again, I will trust your opinion.

Not an excuse but just my experience. Many decades back I was part of a $70B merger and the two cultures were very different. I used to get 15-20 minute demanding voice mails and worse from the teams I worked with on the operational merger.

The first time I got one, I calmly deleted it after a minute. My project administrator looked astonished. I said neither you nor I are a transcription service, if they can take the time to talk for 30 minutes they can take the time to send a brief email. I got a reputation for neither responding to long voice mails nor responding to multi-page emails. The only response was “can you summarize what specific decision you need.”

Focus increased and decisions happened faster, less time was wasted. (I’m completely aware I’m blathering away on this response 🙈

YouTube videos are automatically transcribed for free (they do so to ensure content conforms to their terms of service) and the transcript can be cut and pasted; you can send an mp3 to an AI service perhaps “whisper” and get a transcript.

But I’ll try, thanks!

Wow! What a great response. You'd probably be real interesting to have a chat with. If push comes to shove, I'd take a crack at doing the transcript - possibly. I've done many of them in the past - I might be a bit rusty though. It's a nice relaxing interview, full of interesting gems. I wonder if Meghan can copy this into a Youtube format? Or if they'd even allow it given the subject matter.

I’ll probably download and do just that ;)

Oh wow! - would you be so kind as to post it here once you're done? I would have no idea how to do that Youtube transfer!

I have read and listened to a lot of stuff about the trans issue, but I think this is the first daughter of a man into this.

If we assume that, at least part of what is going on in that movement is the confrontation with formerly forbidden things, such as exhibitionistic attempts to dress up as the “other gender” naturally one wonders then what the new boundary is, if there is one at all, with the girl child in the house.

So you know, I’m an older person, and I’ve been thinking lately about how people age in regards to their life in the past. For instance, if one had a difficult childhood, such as Emma, or maybe some of the rest of us, for other reasons, this could affect us in our senior years.

I did not like being a child I did not like the vulnerability involved, the necessity of relying on other people to take care of me. Other people who are not necessarily 100% reliable and kind of screwed up in themselves. (My working class parents were she 19, he 20 at my birth.)

So I am very wary of the vulnerabilities of old age. Something that used to be called the “second childhood”, and in fact this is an issue that is likely to shorten my life, making me want to get out of it before I face that need for care.

Also it took Emma 42 minutes to mention that tv production from a decade ago Transparent. I watched this show back then.

Do you know that creator director Jill Soloway has turned into Joey?

Also, it was kind of great that the actor who they hired to play the transitioned parent ended up getting kicked off the show for sexual harassment. I think it would’ve been better had they hired another actor and just continued on with the show and have the character do a sexual harassment, while crossdressed as in real life.

That show was interesting because the 'trans' character, to me, was not flattering to the men who transition. He was narcissistic and childish. It read to me as an insult to 'transwomen,' though I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, because the director is so obviously pro-trans... Did others pick up on this, I wonder?
