Is this cancel culture?
Jimmy Kimmel's show was suspended "indefinitely" and suddenly the progressive elite are up in arms about "cancel culture"
On Wednesday evening, ABC announced that a show no one watches anymore, hosted by a man wholly out of touch with the real world and what real world people care about, was suspended “indefinitely.” Jimmy Kimmel fans across the nation mourned the loss of yet another free and independent thinker, sharing his funny and poignant thoughts about how those who declined to get the fake and dangerous Covid “vaccine” should be left to die.
“This is the most straightforward attack on free speech from state actors I've ever seen in my life and it's not even close,” noted hypocrite and MSNBC shill, Chris Hayes, squealed.
“We are witnessing the most brazen attack on free speech in modern American history. Elon, Trump, and MAGA said they were free speech warriors. It’s the exact opposite,” the famed gaylord Democrat, Harry Sisson posted to X.
“There is no such thing as free speech under Donald Trump’s reign,” demon and governor of California Gavin Newsom announced.
Look. For serious, free speech is my top concern. But I am also seriously concerned with truth, principles, and integrity. And not one of these narcissistic, elitist shills have those.
To be clear, they all still have free speech rights. Not one of them has been banned from social media for hating President Donald Trump and his supporters, nor will any of them be ostracized by friends and family for having voted Democrat. If they lose their careers it will be because they are useless shills and grifters, not because they spoke truth to power and defended the rights of all Americans against the wishes of the government.
Yes, some of been ousted from positions as teachers for being bloodthirsty ghouls, but frankly I’m not sure “educator” is the appropriate position for you if you are so opposed to respectful public debate that you think the guy you disagree with should be shot.
Yes, Jimmy Kimmel lost his gig as host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which he hosted for over a decade, perhaps in relation to a lie he told about the young man who shot and killed Charlie Kirk last week. But mainly I think he lost his gig because he was not good at his gig and it was no longer profitable for the corporation paying him to do his gig. Apparently the show had shed 72% of its audience over the past decade.
Part of this is likely to do with the fact that people no longer watch TV in the way they used to. We simply don’t watch late night shows religiously, as a culture, every night anymore. We can get better information and funnier jokes elsewhere, on our own time. But there has also been a cultural shift, leaving behind the everyone-who-isn’t-a-Democrat-is-a-big-racist-dummy types. We don’t want to be force fed politics and ideology from rich Hollywood elites or from media pundits we know lied to us for years in order to appease their Big Pharma and Big Government overlords.
We aren’t buying it. So neither is ABC, apparently.
After a decade of ruthless, dishonest, hyperbolic, hateful, unforgiving attacks on any normie, celebrity, artist, writer, politician, journalist, pundit, student, professor, doctor, knitting enthusiast, or kid who could be positioned as an enemy to all that is right and good on account of a bad tweet, a misconstrued photo op, or for speaking the truth when the truth had been deemed unspeakable, suddenly the left is deeply concerned and fearful because freakin’ Jimmy Kimmel lost his unprofitable, unpopular show.
My dudes, cancel culture did not begin yesterday. It has been going on for a decade and it has been very, very bad. Countless people’s lives have been ruined.
Jimmy' Kimmel’s life has not been ruined. His life is great! And he was likely very much aware that his time with Jimmy Kimmel Live was nearing its end when he decided to say, on Monday’s show:
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”
I very much doubt Kimmel was unaware of all the evidence the rest of us were aware of, demonstrating that the shooter, Tyler Robinson, hated Kirk’s politics, had a trans-identified boyfriend whose ideology he was protective over, and that the bullet casings found at the scene afterward had inscriptions on them with messages like, “Hey fascist! Catch!”
The fact the left has been calling anyone not only vaguely to the right of them, but anyone who strays marginally from their prescribed belief system and mantras, a “fascist,” “bigot,” and “extremist,” with “blood on their hands,” on account of all sorts of infractions—from challenging claims about racist police violence to insisting that it is not possible to change sex to pointing out that lockdowns are not only unnecessary, but harmful and unconstitutional—is key to all of this. Not only was Charlie Kirk murdered on account of his “bad and dangerous and hateful” beliefs, but, according to far too many on the left, he deserved to be killed.
Being murdered for your beliefs quite epitomizes cancel culture, don’t you think?
Might these newly shocked and appalled lefties have mentioned something sooner? You know, when cancel culture was operating at full tilt, rather than after it had died down so significantly? Don’t get me wrong, regular people are still being cancelled within their communities and jobs for having “wrong” opinions about progressive ideology and politics. But people like Chris Hayes and Gavin Newsom and Harry Sisson wouldn’t know anything about that, because they don’t speak to or associate with normal people whose lives actually are impacted in extremely harmful and hurtful ways for daring to speak about what they believe, even if politically incorrect.
I don’t care about Jimmy Kimmel. I really don’t. He deserved to lose his gig because his show sucked. And probably because he spouted a bunch of awful, ignorant bullshit that people didn’t want to hear anymore.
If somehow regular people start getting cancelled and banned from the internet and seeing their lives destroyed for voting democrat or supporting DEI, then maybe I’ll eat my words, but I suspect that will never happen.
In the meantime, at the risk of sounding petty, karma’s a bitch. And also we warned you that the thing you were doing to us would almost certainly come around and bite you in the ass one day, and you were too arrogant to believe us.
