I think the problem was he lied. He straight up lied on TV and that's why the FCC got involved. If he would have made a tasteless joke, I doubt this would have happened.
Yeah, I got that. However, it’s a very selective action against a singular person known to be disliked by President Trump. Not to mention it looked like the market was going to take care of Kimmel without potential state action.
Selective or not, lying about something so serious on public airwaves and intending to double down arguably does deserve punishment, perhaps in the form of suspension. I mean, the FCC's job is to enforce America's communications law and regulations on public airwaves... I don't see this as particularly egregious considering that. It was a political assassination ffs. Turning people further against "MAGA" is dangerous considering what we're dealing with.
As much as I would have hated to hear the vitriol he was going to spew when he “double downed”, I think it would have been better to let him self-immolate. It’s always best to let an opponent beat himself.
I'm completely with you here, though I was pleasantly surprised that when Bondi said she was going to prosecute "hate speech" the MAGA horde on X went crazy so quickly that she had to almost immediately backtrack. I would like to see Trump let rip with an all caps rebuke of partisan, government fact-checking.
Great work, Megyn. If you haven't seen it already, check out Ann Coulter;s latest column, "Blame Social Media, Guns, Vacuums — Anything but Transgenders."
Imagine if Johnny Carson had come on the air on The Tonight Show and said something like.........
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Democrat gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Robert Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
Do you think NBC would have taken more that about ten minutes to fire him?
Of course not. The network executive phone would have lit up in the control room, and he might not have made it past the commercial break.
It surprised me a bit actually that ABC was OK with a show host who asked folks who supported Trump to NOT watch his show.
Then the idea that those who haven't taken the vaccine should not be admitted to a hospital but said they should "go take horse goo wheezy".
I don't know if the economics of Kimmel's show were as bad as Colbert's apparently were, but the viewership numbers for late night shows have been declining for some time. That means diminishing ad revenue and unprofitability. Jimmy's show literally couldn't afford to alienate any potential audience, and he had been doing that with gusto for years now.
Maybe the network had just had enough of him, and the affiliates bailing on the show was just the last straw. Affiliates matter...a lot.
I know at least this about the television business, if your sit-com is losing viewers...it's canceled.
If your prime time drama is losing viewers...it's canceled. If your investigative journalism show is losing viewers...it's canceled. And now, if your late night show is losing viewers, it should be no surprise if it is canceled too.
I particularly enjoyed “demon and governor of California Gavin Newsom announced.” Perfect!👌
If he had been bringing in the ratings, he would have just apolgized and still had his job.
I don’t disagree with you, but FCC Chairman Carr really should not have said what he did. Why give your opponents any ability to point fingers?

Will look it up thanks
And he’s back.
