On day one of Donald Trump’s presidency, he signed a number of executive orders, including several tearing down gender identity ideology and reinstituting women’s sex-based rights. The EOs read as though they are straight out of the TERF playbook, leading many to wonder who was behind them. While of course Trump deserves credit for the EOs, there were other smart individuals who worked to ensure the language was clear and foolproof, including May Mailman.
Formerly the legal director for the Independent Women’s Forum, Mailman represented the six brave Kappa Kappa Gamma women who brought a lawsuit in the federal district court in Wyoming when their sorority allowed a male to join. She was a legal advisor to President Donald J. Trump during his first term, and is now Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Policy Strategist.
I spoke with her about the Kappa Kappa Gamma lawsuit, the importance of women’s spaces, what it means to be a conservative, the new Executive Orders, and more.
