The Coviding will continue until morale improves
The thing I said was going to happen is happening
You may recall that last week and also last month and also the month before that I warned of impending Coviding in Canada. That is to say, I predicted the government would create a new “emergency” allowing for yet another rescinding of rights.
Well, it’s happening.
Today, Premier Dave Eby (you know, the premier of B.C.—my premier, the one who blocked me on X for asking him to prove that “transwomen are women”) introduced new legislation that would give his NDP government sweeping powers to override all provincial laws, regulations, authorities, and legislature.
You know why.
Because it’s an emergency.
The Economic Stabilization Tariff Response Act (Bill 7) includes a provision allowing the province to bypass the legislature in order to “temporarily modify the application or effect of B.C. laws and regulations” in response to threats to B.C.’s economy or Canada’s sovereignty. It also includes provisions that allow the NDP to introduce road tolls and “make regulations respecting the collection or disclosure of information — including personal information — for the purposes of this act.”
In other words, Bill 7 will allow the B.C. government to do whatever it wants.
Eby says the legislation is necessary on account of “the unpredictable nature of the Trump presidency and its potential impact on British Columbians.” "We see this as emergency legislation," he said, comparing it to the authority governments need when responding to natural disasters like floods and fires. "Sadly, I do need these authorities to make sure that we're able to respond in an emergency and, frankly, I can see it coming like a freight train."
