The Liberal Party’s Online Harms Act, also known as Bill C-63, was tabled at the end of February, proposing to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act to qualify online “hate speech” as discrimination. If passed, individuals would gain the ability to file anonymous complaints against other Canadians for engaging in speech they consider to be hateful on social media, forcing them into a Human Rights Tribunal. If found guilty, individuals can be fined up to $50,000 or be penalized with life in prison for “hateful conduct.”

I spoke with John Carpay, founder and president of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF), about the bill and its consequences.

You can sign a petition calling on Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada Arif Virani to stop the Online Harms Act at jccf.ca.
