I think you make a lot of important points, but I think we're going to have to adapt to the new reality. Consider, Every major Military in the World is developing AI at full speed at least DEFENSIVELY. Similar to businesses. They want AI to outcompete. There's no putting the breaks on.
I'm using LLMs quite a bit and I try to use them as teachers, reviewers of content and to answer questions, but I understand that even these activities can atrophy our abilities as we get lazy.
I understand that when writing was developed, story tellers objected that memories would be affected and there's evidence that it has. The printing press and computer certainly accelerated these issue, but now, with AI the reliance on externalized knowledge has just gone asymptotically.
